Poland Bussing in Conservative Lawmakers to Warsaw to Cheer Trump During Speech”

The visit comes ahead of a G20 summit of world leaders in Hamburg, Germany.

The president and First Lady Melania Trump, accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, disembarked from Air Force One on Wednesday night.

Trump is due to arrive late Wednesday in Warsaw, where he is expected to lay out his vision for America's relationship with Europe in a major speech on Thursday.

The tactic is a mirror of that adopted when Poland was a member of the Soviet bloc, and the Communist Party would bus agreeable crowds to Warsaw to greet visiting dignitaries from Moscow.

He has fallen out with some European Union nations over climate change and trade - the issues that are expected to be discussed in Germany. The Polish government will certainly hope for such a message, to help legitimise its anti-migrant and increasingly anti-EU stance, particularly in the eyes of its domestic audience.

"The fact that we appreciate them (the funds), does not mean that we have lost the right to various assessments, including those regarding the historical context", Kaczyński said, adding that Poland has never received any compensation for the losses it suffered during the Second World War. The current right-wing government is quite Eurosceptic.

"A memorandum was signed tonight that the US government has agreed to sell Poland Patriot missiles in the most modern configuration", Macierewicz said in a news conference broadcast on public television on Thursday morning.

Trump is under pressure at home to take a tough line in his first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on issues such as Moscow's support for President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's civil war and allegations of Russian meddling in last year's US election.

As in Saudi Arabia, there will be business to showcase.

What about Trump's speech at Krasinski Square?

Last month Poland received its first one-off consignment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the USA and is eyeing a contract for more deliveries as it looks to diversify its supplies, reduce dependence on Russian Federation and become a hub for the region. "[Others] envy it, the British are attacking us because of it".

In Hamburg, Trump is also scheduled to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, British Premier Theresa May, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, among other leaders.

The Three Seas initiative aims to boost cooperation among countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas. Most are ex-Soviet bloc states that remain heavily dependent on Russian Federation for natural gas and concerned for their energy security.

Finding Poles who are willing to come out and cheer the president might be easier said than done, however. "The G20 will be much scratchier".

Yet his comments on social media suggested that Mr. Trump is struggling to find a way to pressure China to use its influence on the North to de-escalate tensions.

On climate change and trade, however, Mr Trump risks simply finding an even larger group of nations lined up against him. Poland's economy depends on the European Union not only because of major investment money that has flowed in from Brussels (and which has vastly exceeded the scale of the U.S. Marshall Plan for Europe after World War II).

Mr Trump is considering whether to impose punitive measures on steel imports for reasons of national security. We keep hearing that he'll get a warmer welcome there than he has in other European countries, and that's part of what makes this visit controversial.

Trump's session with Putin has been upgraded from a so-called "pull-aside" session with the Russian leader to an official "bilateral" meeting.

"Undoubtedly, we pay attention to the news that come from Eastern Europe, bearing in mind, as you know, a planned bilateral meeting between the Russian and U.S. presidents in Hamburg". "All these things are planned".
