"This one does hurt, but we've got to get over it by tomorrow", MI linebacker Mike McCray said. "It's something Coach (Mark) Dantonio preaches all the time". But Eddie McDoom committed one of the worst drops in recent memory by failing to catch a ball at the 31-yard line that would have put MI in a position to win the game with 19 seconds remaining. Our goal was four coming in and we got five. That's not an excuse for Michigan's game play, however. "We did it the hard way, right down to the last second".

The win, however, came with some adversity within the running back trio of London, Gerald Holmes and LJ Scott.

MSU running back Gerald Holmes left the game after an apparent ankle injury early in the second quarter. Six plays later, quarterback Brian Lewerke ran 14 yards for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead that MSU never gave up.

When Michigan State players celebrated with fans in the stands after the game, a "Little Sisters!" chant broke out. This time, the Spartans relied on their opportunistic defense, including two interceptions by safety David Dowell.

The native of Brook Park, Ohio, forced a fumble on Michigan's second offensive series in the first quarter, giving MSU excellent field position at the MI 46-yard line. "We know what the records are", he said. "I'm excited we were able to pull it out". It's five games into the season, and they aren't off-setting their weaknesses.

As for my prediction, I think the Wolverines win this game by a touchdown. "My hats off to the guys on this defense". But TCU also makes an appearance after a big win over West Virginia.

Michigan was having problems on offense even before Michigan State exposed them. That's two home losses in a row to Michigan State, as Harbaugh looks for answers on offense.

"We're trying very much to coordinate messages on both sides of this, recognizing that there's just going to be a lot of travel up and down between here to Ann Arbor from people who probably will not go to the game", Simon told WVFN-AM 730. "There's gonna be adversity and we have to fight through it".

"Just kind of sure the game was over that point, but it wasn't", Wolverines defensive tackle senior Maurice Hurst recalled.

Though this season's MI team again has a dominant defense, the offense has struggled.

"I take full responsibility for that penalty", Frey said. So far, the Nittany Loins have been one of the top defenses in the nation and are ranked first with an average of just nine points allowed per game. Not to mention the fact the Spartans shut it down offensively in the second half with only three pass attempts. MI threw interceptions on three consecutive possessions in the third and fourth quarters; on their ensuing three possessions off those turnovers, the Spartans lost a total of 13 yards.

Asked where it ranks in his career, Dantonio raised his hand over his head and said, "It's up there, it's way up there". "Come Monday, it's back to work".
