Kyle Busch Rides Hot Streak into Charlotte

Kyle Busch Rides Hot Streak into Charlotteā€

He raced to his career-best sixth victory Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and this win is worth an automatic slot in the next round of NASCAR's playoffs.

Truex leads all drivers in wins and added more bonus points to his series-leading total. Truex has two wins in the playoffs and this one was the first time in this format that Toyota has won a race in this round of postseason. Closing out the Top 5 on the list are teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano who both have multiple wins but have somewhat struggled in 2017 with just over 30 DK points per race on intermediate tracks.

Denny Hamlin won the pole. Dale Jarrett, an NBCSN broadcaster who drove for Robert Yates Racing from 1995-2006, paced the field before the race behind the wheel of the No. 88 Yates auto in which he won the Cup championship in 1999.

Although Sam Hornish Jr. has a limited schedule, he'll be in the No. 12 Ford care for this race. "Blew a right front tire". "So we've got the starting spot to do it. We had track position and we were able to keep it".

"The tracks in this round suit me fairly decent, I guess", said Kyle Larson. "We went from a team that could barely run 15th to 20th". He seemed to be as good as Truex late in the race, but an terrible pit stop - his tire carrier tripped and fell - dropped him to 12th. "It's how you want to start your weekend".

For the second year in a row, the Bank of America 500 was threatened by a tropical system. But I'm cheering you on from home babe! "I feel like (our) 42 team has been really, for most of the season, the only one that has competed with the 78 (Truex) and the 18 (Kyle Busch)". "Good thing with our FedEx Toyota we had a good, fast vehicle and put it on the top".

That's the most laps he's led since the second race of the season at Atlanta, when he led 292 of 325 and ended up ninth. Now, it would be an upset if Truex isn't in the final four drivers in the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Before that, his only qualifying performance outside the top 12 on an open-motor track came at Phoenix in March, when he started 16th. "We ran with good cars during the race tonight, and I'm proud of our effort here".

"I thought we had the best auto at Dover and I thought we had the best vehicle for most of the race here until the PJ1 wore off and we got a little bit off", he said.

"We enjoy, just enjoy the NASCAR racing", said Walter Baumgardner.

KYLE BUSCH: Busch got overheated in his race auto after a tough day - he hit the wall at least three times and said he would need oxygen after the race. Chase Elliott rebounded from a disappointing second-place finish at Dover where he lost the race in the waning laps, with a much more satisfactory second-place finish to Martin Truex Jr.at Charlotte.

It just showed that with Truex winning races on days when he doesn't start with the best auto, teams that make mistakes will have a hard time overcoming them when Truex and Furniture Row Racing are on their game. "We just tried to make it to the end of the race and luckily we did". For someone with as fast a vehicle as he had, he didn't even make it to the round of eight, not to mention the final four. But that went away as the race progressed. He rolled off the grid in 17th, a far cry from in his five previous wins this year when Truex had started second or third.
