NL Wild Card recap and highlights: Diamondbacks outslug Rockies to move on”

This season's National League Wild Card game between the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks feature fresh playoff teams, with this year being the Rockies' first postseason appearance since 2009 and the Diamondbacks' first since 2011.

What looked like a blowout in the early innings turned in to a wild, back-and-forth affair between two division rivals. Bradley hustled out of the bullpen for one out to end the top of the 7th.

There were 6,104 home runs hit in the 2017 regular season, which broke the record of 5,693 set in 2000 at the apex of the steroid era. The moment of the game, though may have come when relief pitcher Archie Bradley came up in the seventh inning and tripled, scoring Lamb and Descalso. Wednesday's game was just that weird and did not follow conventional logic.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are favored over the Colorado Rockies in the 2017 NL Wild-Card Game, according to the latest betting odds. No starting pitcher has been announced for Arizona as of yet, but we will update that information as soon as it becomes available. It was a truly stunning moment. Third baseman Arenado has driven in 130 runs in each of the past three seasons and will surely win his fifth straight Gold Glove. In September, he hit.404 with 16 home runs and 36 RBIs in 24 games. I would have much rather just taken a nice jog into second base, stood up and taken my double there.

"I just think we have guys [who are] not intimidated", Lovullo said Wednesday. The starter will likely be Patrick Corbin or Taijuan Walker since Robbie Ray pitched two-plus innings Wednesday night. His WHIP was under one (0.96) and he struck out 10.2 hitters per nine innings. But he should have gotten his starter shortly thereafter.

Gray, who had put up ace-like numbers down the stretch, just couldn't keep the ball down. "It is too bad we didn't get the win". Black had to take that chance.

"That is a very good team, one of the best in baseball", Arenado said.

Pollock provided the needed insurance and eventual winning runs with his two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth to give D-backs closer Fernando Rodney all the cushion he needed in an eventual 11-8 win over the Rockies.

Who is better right now than J.D. Peralta and Marte did that against the Rockies. This game belonged to Arizona, but our Rockies hung in there, and were not willing to go quietly. If he can limit the offensive production of the number three ranked offense in the Major League Baseball to around three runs, his Diamondbacks will prevail and move on. Blackmon did drive in a run, but even that felt like a minor victory for the Diamondbacks. Blackmon's 37 home runs were the third-most by a leadoff hitter, trailing Alfonso Soriano's 38 in 2002 with the Yankees and 39 in 2006 with the Nationals.

Later this afternoon the Boston Red Sox begin their division series in Houston against the Astros with ace Chris Sale getting his first post-season start against a guy who's been there before, Justin Verlander, making his first playoff start with Houston after years as ace of the Detroit Tigers. But let's think about this. The current collection of Rockies has a.260 combined batting average against Zack Greinke with 15 home runs and 42 RBI.
