Moore vs. Strange: Biggest Senate race of our time”

Liberals and conservatives find it odd that President Donald Trump, whose populist agenda has suffered at the hands of Establishment Republicans, is now backing an Establishment Republican in a special election for the U.S. Senate seat in Alabama. But Moore has support from former White House strategist Steve Bannon and pro-Trump groups who view unusual as the establishment favorite.

This runoff election pits an establishment "swamp creature" McConnell and his establishment colleagues against the true conservative reformers who supported President Trump in the 2016 election. "Now a close runoff".

Moore won 60 of the 67 counties in Alabama, and was especially successful in rural areas. Worse still, although Trump was brilliant enough to understand exactly what they needed and astute enough to become their champion, because he now stands with Big Luther they say the President is naïve and deceived.

Trump is calling McCain's opposition "sad" and "a terrible, disgusting thing" for the Republican Party. "He loves Alabama, and so do I!"

Things would be so much simpler down in Alabama if the GOP contest to replace Jeff Sessions were a straightforward proxy war between the Steve Bannons of the world and the Mitch McConnells. "The judge has proven he's not afraid of a fight for what is right, and he's ready to take on D.C.'s swamp monsters and help make America great again".

The missile defense question referred to tensions with North Korea, and Trump added to his derogatory nickname for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The religious focus and anti-LGBT message is at the core of Moore's political identity. As Strange pointed out ad nauseum in his debate with Moore Thursday, he also has the endorsement of Trump. "I shouldn't be doing this", he said, "shouldn't be involved in a primary".

U.S. Senate candidate and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore blasted the "immorality, abortion, sodomy", and "sexual perversion" that "sweep our land" in a debate last night. "It is a vote for the people's agenda that elected the president". Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Washington insiders are heavily backing his bid for office with millions of dollars in campaign support.

The endorsements listed on Moore's campaign website list the Rev. Matt Trewhella as a key supporter of the Alabama Republican's Senate bid, as People of the American Way's Right Wing Watch first reported.

Since Mr Bannon was sacked from the White House, he has made clear his intention to support insurgent candidates across the country, in what he has framed as a challenge to the mainstream Republicanism of senate majority leader Mitch McConnell. Trump then got on the phone with GOP strategist Ward Baker, a Corker and McConnell ally who is working on the race for the Senate Leadership Fund, to talk through the campaign, according to a different person who also requested anonymity to disclose the private conversation. Meanwhile, Moore and his supporters can rest assured that he's led in six of the last six public polls of the race, so he's undoubtedly in the driver's seat.

"What's the truth?" Moore asked from the stage.
