Reviewers say the new Apple Watch is pretty bad”

Lauren Goode from The Verge said that the Apple Watch Series 3 couldn't connect to LTE and instead connected to unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks. But the Apple Watch Series 3 + Cellular will soon have the additional capability of streaming Apple Music playlists and radio when you're away from your phone or WiFi.

As a smartwatch, the Series 3 will probably last you a day and a half with the watch connected to your iPhone and with notifications enabled.

Phone calls and iMessage chats work on the watch even if your phone is off, as do turn-by-turn maps and queries to the Siri voice assistant. For starters, using LTE is a significant drain on battery life, which was already a soft spot for Apple Watch in general and the most meaningful department in which the Ionic pulls ahead. "So, when we look at it the phone - the iPhone in particular - has become so essential in our daily lives, people want it to do more, more, and more and so we built more and more technology in to be able to do that".

In a note to investors on Tuesday (Sept. 19), KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple could still be planning on delivering its Touch ID in the smartphones it will release in 2018. The latest news suggests that iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be facing some production problems, which will translate to delays in shipment for some people.

USA Today's Ed Baig's headline reads: "An excellent phone forced to the shadows by the iPhone X", again reiterating that this isn't Apple's most feature-rich iPhone. The question is ... are the new bells and whistles worth going out and dropping $400 on a watch? What if I get hurt and need to call someone to come pick me up because I can't make it home?

The Series 3, available in stores starting Friday, will cost $329 without cellular and $399 with cellular. And outside the USA, only a handful of carriers are supporting the cellular watch. But if it appeals to you, the Apple Watch Series 3 is the way to go. I hope so. Do these third party developers get access to caching behaviour like Apple Music, that can sync songs overnight to the Apple Watch?

In plain language, the Apple Watch 3 seems to be connecting to wireless networks it shouldn't be, which then screws up LTE connectivity, since the Watch 3 is effectively creating a connectivity dead end, then doubling down on it. But if there is one device I credit with having helped me bring down my weight, or take a grip on my stress, it has to be the Apple Watch.

Apple isn't the only one climbing the ladder to the $1,000USD smartphone.

Aside from this specific use case Apple keeps repeating that involves a beach bum who also needs to pick up important calls from the shore, the main sales pitch is focused on how impressive the device is technologically. At this stage Optus and Telstra have announced their plans, both $5 a month to share the voice and data of your current phone plan. Now that I've gotten a taste of the phone-free life, I think I'd find it hard to go back.

Apple Watch Series 3 will be available on September 22.
