Hundreds of Thousands Without Power as Hurricane Harvey Drenches Texas”

One community transported multiple people from a senior living home to the county jail for treatment after a roof caved in.

Tens of thousands are without power.

It's much calmer now in Corpus Christi.

- More than 211,000 customers of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) electric system have lost power since Harvey made landfall Friday night, the corporation said.

The fiercest hurricane to hit the U.S.in more than a decade came ashore late Friday about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Corpus Christi as a mammoth Category 4 storm with 130 mph (209 kph) winds.

Rockport City Manager Kevin Carruth said by phone that he had heard reports of a tree falling into a mobile home and roofs collapsing on houses. Before mid-day on Saturday, an estimated 300,000 residents along the Texas coast were left without power, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The Rockport Volunteer Fire Department requested airboats to begin search and rescue efforts.

"There's nothing we can do at this moment".

But officials are cautioning that Texas Gulf Coast residents shouldn't think the danger is over just because Harvey is weakening or has already passed through their towns.

As the storm crept slowly along the Texas shoreline, Houston's sprawling, flood-prone metropolitan area prepared for a deluge.

"It's hard to imagine just how horrific and destructive this amount of water will be".

The city of Victoria was also under a water boil advisory. The city announced that all parks, recreation sites and public libraries would close at 4 p.m. today because of the deteriorating weather, and is urging drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

The damage was widespread - but officials couldn't say how serious it would end up being.

Austin officials say they're prepared to open more shelters if local residents are displaced by flooding.

Abbott warned that people in the hurricane's path needed to be ready to make it "a couple of days" without electricity of adequate food supplies.

Mayor Sylvester Turner told CNN Friday the city has been preparing for the storm over the last four or five days and is aware of which areas are susceptible to flooding. "We will stay with this thing all the way through". It made landfall again later on the northeastern shore of Copano Bay. It killed more than 400 people. Two 250-bed medical units were also being deployed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while other federal medical units are available in Dallas.

Mr Abbott said he had asked Mr Trump for a federal disaster declaration. "They wouldn't be able to be maintained without electricity".

Approximately 128 people were evacuated from a Fairfield Inn in Rockport after the hotel was hit by the strong hurricane winds, according to a National Weather Service report, the Weather Channel reported.

'Harvey has sustained wind speeds of 130 miles per hour (209 kph),' reports CNN, citing the National Hurricane Center.
