Haryana Government today took a major decision to suspend the mobile internet services for next 72 hours following Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Ram Rahim Rape verdict case hearing on 25th August (tomorrow) at Panchkula High Court. It had supported the Congress in Punjab in the 2002 and 2007 assembly polls while it was the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine that got the support in the next two Assembly polls, including the Assembly elections this year.

Like him, almost two lakh sect followers have descended on Panchkula and nearby places from mostly across Punjab and Haryana.

While a security blockade has been put up around the court complex, beyond it thousands of followers squatted along the roads.

"Around 400 police personnel from Gurugram have been sent to Panchkula for maintaining law and order", Gurugram Police spokesperson Ravinder Kumar said.

So far, 85 companies of paramilitary forces out of the 250 requisitioned by the state government have reached Punjab.

The tricity (comprising Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali) is on the edge as the verdict in the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is expected on Friday.

"We are in constant touch with the governments of Punjab and Haryana".

Women followers plan to keep vigil all night, though separate arrangements have been made for their stay by the Dera management.

Stern action would be taken against those found violating the instructions, Deputy Commissioner of Panchakula Gauri Parashar Joshi had said.

It was reported that Punjab, Haryana on high alert after violence by Dera Sacha Sauda followers feared in the city. The senior officers of police are keeping close eye on social media to check the rumours.

Through Facebook and Twitter posts on Thursday, Ram Rahim said that he would be present in the CBI court in Panchkula to listen to the verdict.

Heavy police has been deployed in Bathinda, which shares its border with Sirsa, where the Dera headquarters in Haryana.

"People who are arriving in Panchkula have said that they would not heed the pleas of the Ashram".

Apart from the Army, which has been called out in Sirsa and Panchkula and is on the standby in other areas, the Centre has rushed as many as 150 companies of paramilitary forces to Punjab and Haryana.

Taking precautionary steps, the police has also set up two control rooms in the area.

He is facing charges of raping a former female follower inside the Dera campus, near Sirsa.

The sect claims to have 50 million followers and runs a spiritual empire that promotes vegetarianism and campaigns against drug addiction.
