Manuwa's ready but it's high unlikely he fights at UFC 214

Manuwa's ready but it's high unlikely he fights at UFC 214”

The UFC loaded UFC 214 with three title fights, in part to make sure the fans still have value for their purchase in case Cormier-Jones fell apart once again. The event will feature three title bouts.

Daniel Cormier posed this question to Jon Jones ahead of their light heavyweight title fight this weekend. But Wednesday's press conference was pretty entertaining.

Jones is arguably the greatest fighter ever, and if Cormier beats him he'll at the very least be in that conversation as well. It is a good thing that the UFC stopped tortutring "Cyborg" and opened the 145 pound women's weight class. Evinger held the Invicta title at 145 pounds for a long time before comiing over to the UFC and she has won 10 fights in a row, not losing since July of 2011. Sandwiched in between those fights was a non-title victory over another pound-for-pound legend, Anderson Silva, as Jones' replacement on short notice at UFC 200. Jones tested positive for a tainted substance, and the fight was called off.

They exchanged harsh words again this week in a faceoff, but Jones has vowed to be classy after he wins their rematch. His auto struck a vehicle which was being driven by a pregnant woman and he later turned himself into police. His lone loss came to Jones.

The 38-year-old Cormier then moved to the UFC at heavyweight, going undefeated by beating Roy Nelson and former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Since Cormier and Jones' first fight at UFC 182 in January of 2015, Jones has fought just once, against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197 in April of 2016.

Following his impressive win over Derrick Lewis in Auckland last month, the Kiwi had hoped to fight in Japan in September and had reached out to second-ranked heavyweight Fabricio Werdum. It was revealed by USADA that the NY native tested positive for a banned substance.

He is considered MMA's pound-for-pound No 1 fighter though the 30-year-old (22-1) is coming off a year's suspension for a failed drugs test. The setback further delayed his rematch with Cormier.

Jon Jones is a prodigy. He has all of the right physical attributes to be the pound-for-pound best - the ideal height to rule at light-heavy, as well as heavyweight at some point; reach surpassed by nobody on the UFC roster; a combination of confidence, charisma and killer instinct that makes for an athlete who can transcend the sport.

"This is my era", Cormier said this week. Cormier has to get this fight to the ground to win, he can't win a standup battle with Jones. All Jones has to do is win Saturday and stay clean.

If anybody in the world could relate to the exact pressures and pitfalls faced by Jones over the past several years as a wildly successful mixed martial artist, Cormier would be that man.

As for the other two title fights, we will finally see Demian Maia get his long awaited welterweight title shot against Tyron Woodley, whilst Cristiane Justino, better known as Cris Cyborg should finally be crowned as the UFC's Featherweight champion against Tonya Evinger.

The main card starts off with a light heavyweight title eliminator, where Jimi Manuwa (-190) is favored against Volkan Oezdemir (+150).

Though not many details were given on Sling TV's plunge into pay-per-view programming, it was confirmed that the UFC would be its first of many offerings.
