Today is the day when Reliance Industries will hold its 40th AGM meeting for its shareholders.

Available for beta testing from August 15, the bookings for the JioPhone will start from August 24.

Reliance Jio, the fourth-generation telecom arm of Reliance Industries, will provide unlimited data on the phone for Rs 153 per month.

Buyers interested in the Reliance JioPhone initially have to deposit a sum of INR 1500 which is an all in all refundable amount after three years from now. The deposit will be refundable after three years.

Other features of the phone include microphone and speaker, headphone jack, ringtones, torchlight and FM radio. It has a candy bar design with a dual language keypad and a dedicated button for activating the phone's voice-controlled assistant slotted between the buttons to receive and reject calls. It will have pre- loaded apps of Reliance Jio like Jio TV, Jio Money etc.

The JioPhone has 4G support, and features both a mini and nano SIM slot, though there's no 2G or 3G support. Most have recharged on Jio's Rs 309 or higher plans. The "Monsoon" had a lot of "Hungama" then too and the CDMA voice those days was as clear as they came.

Reliance Jio JioPhone will be a "Made in India" device. Mukesh Ambani has promised that the data will also be affordable and the users of JioPhone will be able to access 4G internet at Rs 153/month. According to the Reliance Industries chairman, features phone users spend Re 1.20/Re 1.50 per minute for voice calls.

Both segments' EBIT performance was far ahead of CNBC-TV18 poll estimates of Rs 3,600 crore and Rs 6,150 crore, respectively. It wold be interesting to see if Mukesh Ambani makes some announcement regarding future plans of its data packs. In the coming one year, Jio will cover 99% of the population for sure. Ambani announced 10,000 more Jio offices, and the company plans to integrate with most e-commerce platforms as well. He proudly announces that Reliance has over 125 Million Subscribers and 7 customers are added every second.

Mukesh Ambani emphasised PM Modi's Digital India initiative by saying that the JioPhone is 'made by, made for, and made in India'. The company took largest free to paid migration starting March.

He said India has overtaken the U.S. and China in mobile data usage. The company claims that mobile data usage in India fared around 0.2 billion GB per month in the pre-Jio era. "Jio is a customer-obsessed organisation and will always walk an extra mile in serving them every single day", he said.
