Jaguar E-PACE flies into record books

Jaguar E-PACE flies into record books”

Jaguar unveiled the 2016 XF by driving it across a tightrope and unveiled the F-PACE by driving it around a loop.

The new Jaguar E-PACE has set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title during its world premiere.

As Patel says, this isn't the first time Jaguar has set a record during the launch of a auto.

A second official image shows the E-Pace alongside the F-pace and I-Pace, revealing that the E-Pace has bigger, more aggressive front air vents than its siblings, and side windows that taper to a point at the rear of the vehicle, much as the F-Type sports car's do. The chassis is actually shared with the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport, but it has been modified for a longer wheelbase at 268 mm. Those gains were mostly on the strength of the brand's first crossover, the F-Pace.

A Jaguar E-Pace First Edition will be on sale for the first year based on the R-Dynamic SE spec. There are also 245bhp and 296bhp versions of a turbocharged petrol engine, which uses a single twin-scroll turbo and Continuously Variable Valve Lift. The fastest models will be capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds and hitting a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

The five-seater is the newest member of Jaguar's SUV family following on from the F-Pace and all-electric I-Pace concept.

Speaking to press, Jaguar design don Ian Callum revealed that his team's codename for the E-Pace during development was the "cub". Its 577-litre boot bodes well, as this comfortably beats the boots of the Audi Q3 (420 litres) and the BMW X1 (505 litres). The advantage of this substantial length is that it's possible to store objects that are 1.6m long, and still get two passengers in the auto. Remove the tray, and there's enough room for two wine bottles. The 2-litre 150bhp diesel with front-wheel-drive will be popular, I think, but there is always the AWD 180PS version or the 300bhp petrol. To receive the more powerful 296-hp engine, buyers must opt for the R-Dynamic model, which also adds a unique front bumper with deeper outboard air intakes, body-colored sills, and lower rear bumper surfaces with a gloss black rear valence.

If you disagree however, then you may be more interested in the optional 12.3-inch TFT panel, which replaces the analogue instruments with digital options on the screen instead. There's a wearable key option!

Note that the record jump on the E-Pace was played by stuntman Terry Grant at the exhibition center ExCeL London.

The E-Pace has a metal-effect trim finish inside to give it a more contemporary feel than wood.

Price: $48,000-85,000 (estimated) plus on-road costs.

Priced from £28,500, with three diesel power choices (150hp, 180hp and 240hp) and two petrol (249hp or 300hp), all are four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ingenium engines with headline 60.1mpg and 124g/km Carbon dioxide headline economy and emissions figures for the two-wheel drive 150hp diesel 6-speed manual and likely fleet best-seller.
