Spieth stabilizes in final round at US Open

It capped quite a journey for the 27-year-old Floridian.

Has Brian Harman ever won a professional golf tournament?

Koepka is trying for his first major championship. That honour went to Brian Harman, who managed to keep his composure to hit an impressive round of 67 sneak into the lead on 12-under par. Without a card on any tour when Koepka got out of Florida State, he filled his passport with stamps from the most unlikely outposts in golf while playing the minor leagues on the European Tour - Kazakhstan and Kenya, Portugal and India and throughout Europe.

Should be fairly exciting golf today, lots of names close to the lead. anybody within 5 or 6 of the lead score can win.

After dropping a stroke on the par-four 12th, Spieth fired back with birdies on the 13th and 14th.

Hideki Matsuyama is making one last push at the U.S. Open. He got off to the ideal start with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 first and a tee shot just short of the green on the 338-yard second hold, leading to a simple up-and-down for another birdie.

This week alone, nine players reached at least 10 under and seven finished there.

CINKING IN: Stewart Cink had a bad start to the third round of his 20th U.S. Open.

One man who would appear to have no issue with confidence is Patrick Reed and the boisterous 26-year-old will begin the final round four behind Harman after a wonderful 65 on Saturday. I want a U.S. Open where some poor person in the production truck is forced to hover his finger over the mute button all day, because players can't stop cussing about their misfortunes.

Fowler won't carry as much baggage into the final round as Garcia did at the Masters, where he ended a string of 73 majors without a win.

And the prime beneficiary was Thomas, who catapulted up the leaderboard with his record-breaking nine-under-par 63.

No, the U.S. Open should be mind-numbingly challenging.

Champ and Scottie Scheffler are tied at 1 under.

He finished at 12-under 272, the first player to complete a U.S. Open double digits under par.

Thomas poured that in to become the 29th player with a 63 in a major championship. It's just a matter that this is one of the four majors in a year, and this is a US Open.

The challenge today for the leaders will be dealing with the enormity of winning the US Open.

Teeing off among the morning groups, Spieth played his most consistent round of the tournament Sunday to little fanfare. They each hit their first shot into the rough.

The left-handed Harman, 30, has five top-10 finishes and two victories since joining the tour in 2012, most recently at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.

The previous lowest score in relation to par was the eight-under 63 shot by Johnny Miller in the final round of the 1973 Open.

Fleetwood bounced back in style with a superb approach to the ninth, a green labelled "a little iffy" by 2015 champion Jordan Spieth after his closing 69.

It was a fitting end to a frustrating day for Spieth at the U.S. Open. "That fifth shot on the 18th was the best shot all day".

The first three rounds at Erin Hills have been immensely entertaining.
