Real Madrid win back-to-back Champions League titles

Only 18 months into his first head coaching job, the France great is lifting his fifth trophy with Real Madrid.

CRISTIANO Ronaldo fired Real Madrid into the history books as they beat Juventus at the Millennium Stadium.

And with a number of veteran players in his side - not least goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon - there will be questions over whether this might be the end for this Juventus team. The mavens had predicted a narrow win for both teams in equal measure.

"We are a very good team and in the second-half we showed how good we are".

It had been a less than impressive display by the Italian champions on the night, especially given their famed defensive capabilities, as they have afforded the Real attackers far too much time and space on the ball to cause real damage. Juventus, for their part, were looking risky on the counter.

Madrid, though, could have been back in front once more in the 33rd minute when Marcelo got to the byline and picked out Ronaldo in the middle, but the Portugal captain miscued his header and missed the target.

He has the trio Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini ahead of him, while Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic make up central midfield.

Before going on to dominate the contest, however, they were pegged back by a spectacular Mario Mandzukic goal.

But Juventus responded in the best possible way. Alex Sandro reached it and cushioned the ball back across the box.

That made Ronaldo the second man to score in three finals, after Alfredo Di Stefano, who netted in five in a row for Real in the 1950s.

- Dortmund also scored the most goals in the group stage this season with 21.

Then, just after the hour-mark, Real once again took the lead via a sizable dollop of luck.

Two goals in the space of three second-half minutes was to prove crucial in Real's winning of their twelfth European Cup.

Real Madrid will play today the Champions League final and it will be a very important clash because of different topics.

The Italians were hampered in the closing minutes when one of their players, Juan Cuadrado, was sent off after being handed two yellow cards.

Gianluigi Buffon nearly had an expression of resignation as he walked around the pitch after the match.
