Paul Manafort Is Getting Off the Trump Train

Either way, Manafort's resignation comes just two days after the Associated Press reported that the Republican lobbyist "helped a pro-Russian governing party in Ukraine secretly route at least $2.2 million in payments to two prominent Washington lobbying firms in 2012, and did so in a way that effectively obscured the foreign political party's efforts to influence USA policy".

Ukrainian authorities have released details of payments worth million of dollars that U.S. presidential campaign hopeful Donald Trump's campaign chief allegedly received from Kiev's former Russian-backed leaders. Trump's first campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, exited in June after Manafort was brought on to help smooth Trump's path to the Republican National Convention in July where he was formally nominated.

In a statement Friday morning, Trump said that Manafort voluntarily resigned, but did not mention his new advisers or Manafort's role as a foreign agent.

"Now you look at Kellyanne and the other people we're bringing in and they're absolutely fantastic and I think they're going to be the ones that bring us all the way through November 8th and ultimately get us the victory", Eric Trump said.

The remarks came as Trump makes significant changes to a campaign that has struggled since the Democratic and Republican nominating conventions from self-created distractions.

Manafort "has been a big proponent of the "pivot" - the effort to instill discipline into Trump's rhetoric and encourage more outreach to skeptical Republicans", as The Christian Science Monitor reported on Wednesday. Trump had planned to retain Manafort as campaign chairman, but the veteran consultant opted to leave instead.

Democrats said the repeated upheavals of Trump's campaign reflect dysfunction and disarray.

Paul Manafort's short tenure as the guy in charge of Donald Trump's presidential campaign is at an end. Lewandowski's problems dealing with outside groups like the RNC had prevented the two organizations from working together to create a joint fundraising apparatus and a robust voter turnout program, two key elements of a campaign that Trump eschewed during the primary.

Caputo said the increased scrutiny over Manafort's ties to Russian Federation and Ukraine helped lead to his ouster.

Manafort's resignation comes hours after certain damning revelations from Ukraine - a connection that has been exploited by Trump's rival. "With less than three months to the election, it appears there will be no pivot toward a more conventional "presidential" posture".

Manafort is also stepping down amid growing allegations related to his work on behalf of a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.

Forty-eight hours later, Manafort resigned. Trump hired two new top campaign officials, widely seen as a demotion for Manafort.

The prominent Christian conservative says he wants Trump to "let the country know" about the extent of the damage.
